Semperficop - NGRRFAN asked you a question. So glad you answered it. IF you have not experienced it don't shout out. That road is a private road and has its own rules.

RE: southeast New Mexico- interesting places

If you are coming across NM into AZ be sure to stop at the Willcox Visitor Center/ Stout's Cider Mill (same parking lot) and sample their apple pie!! I kid you not - they put 8 pounds of sliced apples in every full sized pie!! Delicious!

RE: Wind generators

New technology? maybe but we were in the Cg at Organ Pipe cactus national Park several (at least 5) years ago and a fellow in the next site had a wind turbine setup. It was on a sectional mast (flagpole-like) that he attached to the back end of his fifth wheel. As I recall the turbine was about 14X6 inches and the 3 blades were about 4 ft.
He claimed that in a light breeze ( about 5MPH that day) that he could run his micro wave and TV. Yes - he demo'd that for me. He had bought it at Quartzite that March.

RE: Wheel chocks - what kind is best?

I think there are two separate issues here ; A- chocks to stop the whole rig from moving away. I use 2 pieces of 4x4 cut at 45 degrees. Actually I used a 12 inch length and cut it in half at 45 degrees. Then I drilled a hole thrpough each piece and used a piece of nylon rope long enough to put one chock on each side of a tire ( old forest service handy trick). Even if the tire is on a levelling board/ramp the chock will stop forward or back movement.
B- stabilization for which there are several different styles/brands as discussed above. These help with dampening trailer rocking from movement of folks inside. Persosnally is use the BAL cam type.
For both issues I chock and stabilize both sides of our rig. Chock wheels before lowering front jacks and unhitching. Stabilize after levelling and dropping rear jacks.

RE: Carrier on Backend for generator

"My first question is about running the Gen's in the pickup bed which is right below the 5'er bedroom. I'm concerned about carbon monoxide from the gen's getting into the bedroom. I do have a CO2 detector, but I'm still concerned"
Well the general consensus on generator use is - DO NOT run them all night!!
Why would you run it while sleeping?

RE: Sunrise Resorts

Yes - they will pitch their membership system to you in that 1 hr. presentation/BS session. Two choices for you - 1. take your check book/credit card and buy in OR 2. take a stop watch and when the hour/90 minute time is up pick up and say thank you and good by!

RE: From Banff to where?

Bobofthenorth and others - you need to be specific - Banff national Park (of just Banff Park) vs. Banff town. I tend to agree with you IF you mean Banff town although some/many folks enjoy that type of kitsch.
Most visitors cannot tell if you are downgrading the ParK or the Town.
To repeat - be specific in such posts please.

RE: Steep grades in Canada??

For those interested in STEEP grades in Canada see this post "Stewart-Cassiar and the Telegraph Creek Road" by explorenorth on Oct. 21 in Canada-Alaska forum, and clip on his clicky. But the pictures hardly do justice to the road. Been there - done that (1995)

RE: Guns and RVs

"I've been a camp host in several National Parks. We carry 2 pistols. Never have been asked if we have a gun. Of course, we don't get it out, it is kept hidden in the motorhome. I don't plan to cross into Canada as long as we have a gun in the vehicle."
Camp hosts in NPs and NFS cgs should be held responsible for following the rules!! NPs generally forbid firearms except by qualified employees. Shame on you!
And this post is NOT in any way an anti-gun suggestion.

RE: 1st time long trip, NH to NM

April - if we have a 'normal' winter there will still be snow in the NM mountains! Be sure your family is directed to see & spend a day at Bandelier National Monument - one of the most interesting Anasazi Ruins in the 4 corners area and not far from Los Alamos. Also many of the nearby Pueblos are very interesting places to visit.
